Little Folks' Reader (1880-1882)
Our Little Men and Women (1883-1894)

Published by D. Lothrop & Co./ D. Lothrop Co.

The Little Folks' Reader, a monthly magazine, was introduced by D. Lothrop & Co. in January, 1880. It was designed for beginning readers. It had 16 pages filled with simple math, grammar and penmanship instruction as well as easy reading passages. An individual issue cost seven cents and a one year subscription cost 75 cents.
There was an illuminated board cover book that included all 12 issues for each year that this magazine was published.

Beginning in January, 1883 the Little Folks' Reader was published as "Our Little Men and Women". It was enlarged to 24 pages and still published monthly.
Six full page color illustrations were included in the new magazine but otherwise the content was essentially unchanged.
Each year there was an illuminated board cover ($1.50) and a cloth bound book with extra gilt ($2.00) that included all twelve issues.

The Alpha Publishing Company purchased this magazine (and Babyland) from D. Lothrop Co. in March, 1894. The March issue was the first published by the Alpha Publishing Company. Alpha published the 1894 annual.

Here are some examples of the individual magazines and the bound copies.
(No cloth bound annual books have been seen.)
