Henry F. Anners appears to have been in the publishing business from at least 1818 to 1856. In the early years it published prayer books. On January 1, 1836 Thomas T. Ash associated with Henry F. Anners in a partnership which was noted as Thomas T. Ash & Co. Between 1836 and 1839 Anners published with Thomas T. Ash (1803-1853) on the imprint, Thomas T. Ash & Henry F. Anners. Books with only the Thomas T. Ash & Co. imprint also were printed during these years. Anners was best known for its gift books and moralistic books authored by T. S. Arthur.

Between 1825 and 1827 Thomas T. Ash had been associated with George R. Mason as the firm of Ash & Mason. The partnership was dissolved in 1827. Publications on Ash's namesake imprint have been noted as early as 1827.
