Belknap & Warfield, Hartford

Belknap & Warfield was established by Leverett Belknap and George Warfield in 1891. It was mainly a bookseller, printer and stationery outfit with some book publishing.

Leverett Belknap (1851-1942) joined the firm of Brown & Gross in 1864. Starting as a clerk, he rose to become a partner. George F. Warfield worked for Brown & Gross as a bookkeeper in 1884 and after other employment came back to the firm in 1889.

Flavius A. Brown died in 1880 and when William H. Gross passed away in 1891, Belknap & Warfield succeeded Brown & Gross. Belknap retired in 1910 and the firm was succeeded by G. F. Warfield & Co.

This company published two series for juveniles:

Morgan Series by Emily Malone Morgan

2. Poppy Garden (Copyright 1892)
3. Prior Rahere's Rose (Copyright 1892)
4. Lady of the Olden Time (Copyright 1896)

This series for older children and adults was published by Belknap & Warfield in the 1890’s.
