A. B. Burdick, New York

Not much is known about Asher B. Burdick (1826-1894). A. B. Burdick of the Burdick Brothers was a book agent who offered to publish Hinton Rowan Helper’s anti-slavery book, "The Impending Crisis of the South: How to Meet it" as long as Helper agreed to indemnify him from any loss. The Burdicks made a fortune selling this book which was released in June, 1857. It sold more than one hundred thousand copies in its first year. The Burdick Brothers reprinted this volume in 1858 and it was reprinted by A. B. Burdick in 1859.

It appears that the Burdick Brothers who were located at 8 Spruce Street published books between 1857 and 1858. Thereafter A. B. Burdick who was at the same address until 1858 continued to print Burdick Brothers' publications. A. B. Burdick was at 145 Nassau Street between 1858 and 1861. There is no evidence of any subsequent activity.

A. B. Burdick published one series for juveniles.
