Cyrus G. Cooke, Boston

Cyrus G. Cooke succeeded the Shepard, Clark & Brown firm in 1860.
By 1869 Cyrus had joined with his brother to establish C. G. Cooke & Bro. The latter firm dissolved in 1874.

Cyrus G. Cooke published a number of school books during its publishing years. It also printed one series for juveniles.

Own Toy Makers Series

1. Boy's Own Toy Maker: A Practical Illustrated Guide to the Useful Employment of Leisure Hours by E. Landells
2. Girl's Own Toy Maker and Book of Recreation by E. Landells and Alice Landells

Ads note the Cyrus G. Cooke editions as early as September, 1860. The earliest title page date I have seen is 1861. Reprints were done by Cooke in 1863.
Both of these books were published by Cyrus G. Cooke were published in their totality in a number of smaller editions in wraps. Cooke also published an omnibus volume which contains the contents of both volumes. See below.

The American first edition of the "Boy's Own Toy Maker" was published by Shepard, Clark & Brown in 1859. Later editions were also published beginning in 1860 by D. Appleton & Co.

It is unknown at this time whether the Cooke edition of the “Girl's Own Toy Maker" was the first edition.

The exact number / titles of books which came from the "Toy Maker" books is presently unknown.

These issues are in wraps. Both the "Boy's" and "Girl's" covers have vignettes surrounding a picture of boys or girls. 6" x 5"
