Houghton, Osgood & Co.

In January, 1878 two publishing houses, James R. Osgood & Co. and Hurd & Houghton dissolved and joined together to form Houghton, Osgood & Co.

In May, 1880 Houghton, Osgood & Co. dissolved the partnership of Henry O. Houghton, James R. Osgood and George H. Mifflin.

Henry O. Houghton, George H. Mifflin and Lawson Valentine formed a new partnership - Houghton, Mifflin & Co.

James R. Osgood joined John H. Ammon, previously a salesman with James R. Osgood & Co., and his brother Edward L. Osgood to restart James R. Osgood & Co. as well as the Heliotype Printing Company.

Houghton, Osgood & Co. did not publish many series for juveniles.
