Lane & Tippett, New York
Lane & Scott, New York

George Lane and Charles B. Tippett published books that were issued by the Methodist Episcopal Sunday School Union between 1844 and 1848. It succeeded G. Lane & P. P. Sanford. In 1844 Lane was elected as the principal book agent and Tippett, a Methodist Episcopal Minister from Baltimore, was elected as an assistant book agent. Tippett served one term and was succeeded by Levi Scott. The firm of Lane & Scott was active between 1848 and 1852.

The Methodist Episcopal Church had published over 200 titles in its Sunday School and Youth’s Library by 1842. These firms and their successors published the multivolume, multiauthored Children’s Library A and B and the Youth’s Library as well as numerous other shorter nonspecific series. For interest by 1852 Lane & Scott's Children's Libraries had 200 books each and its Youth's Library had 552 books for a total of 952 volumes. Carlton & Phillips, Lane & Scott's immediate successor, continued to add titles to these series.

The latter series are well beyond the scope of this bibliography. Appreciate that those Lane & Scott libraries included the books from the series listed below.

In 1844 Daniel Parish Kidder became the editor of Sunday School Books and Tracts. He was the editor of most of the series that are listed below.
