Hill and Libby, Boston
E. O. Libby & Company, Boston

Hill and Libby was active early in 1858. This firm only published one series book: The "Life of Capt. John Smith". It was succeeded by E. O. Libby & Co. In July, 1858 Frederick P. Coggeshall, formerly of Phillips & Sampson, joined E. O. Libby to establish E. O. Libby & Co.

Little is known about E. Osgood Libby and his firms. Before moving to Boston he lived in Portland, Maine. Libby's imprint appeared on books in 1858 and 1859. Per newspaper reports, Mr. Libby was noted to be involved with forgeries of some type in the fall of 1859. The company failed at that time and apparently Libby "left for another country" and vanished. Further information about Libby is lacking.
