Henry D. Noyes & Co., Boston

As early as 1862 Henry D. Noyes was at the 117 Washington Street address acting as a publisher’s agent for the American Sunday School Union. In the fall of 1864, Crosby & Nichols dissolved their partnership and Henry P. Nichols formed a co-partnership with Henry D. Noyes under the firm name of Nichols & Noyes. It operated until 1870.

In 1870 Noyes, Holmes & Co. became an active publishing firm. The partners were Henry D. Noyes, John S. Lockwood, John B. Holmes and Walter D. Brooks. Noyes, Holmes & Co. was dissolved by contractual limitation in May, 1875.

Noyes, Snow & Co. was established in 1876 at 13 1/2 Bromfield Street. It principal’s were Henry D. Noyes, late of Noyes, Holmes & Co., Russell Woodman of the same firm and Ezra H. Snow, previously of West & Lee Game and Printing Co. of Worcester, Mass. The new firm published and sold books, games and home amusements.

By 1878 Henry D. Noyes & Co. was active as a publisher on his namesake imprint.

Nichols and Noyes published the first editions of this series. Catalogue entries note that Noyes, Holmes & Company also published this four book series. None of these volumes have been seen and they may not actually exist.
Subsequently the set was published by Lockwood, Brooks & Co.
