W. I. Pooley, New York

William I. Pooley (1825-1879) was born in New York City and began in the book business as a clerk with Stringer & Townsend. He subsequently worked for Dewitt & Davenport. He went into business on his own in about 1857 and closed his business because of financial issues in about 1872. Later he was an agent for the J. H. Butler & Co. and Baker, Pratt & Co. firms.

W. I. Pooley was a publisher, bookseller and blank book manufacturer.
Although numerous series and sets for juveniles are listed in its catalogue, with the exception of the "College Series" these books were sold by Pooley but not published by Pooley.

W. I. Pooley only published one series for juveniles.
