J. S. Redfield, New York

Justus S. Redfield (1810-1888) established his namesake firm in 1831 as the publisher of the "Family Magazine". The company was active until 1860 initially as a stereotyper (as Redfield & Savage) and later as a publisher. Thereafter Redfield was in the diplomatic service.

Redfield published its four series of toy books at least as early as 1850. These very popular books were later published by Kiggins & Kellogg. They are all anonymously authored. In 1855 and 1856 Redfield published two series of "Dickens' Little Folks".
