Sawyer, Ingersoll & Co., Hudson and Toledo, Ohio
Hudson Book Company, Hudson, Ohio

In 1850 this Hudson, Ohio firm was established by Professor Henry Noble Day of Western Reserve College, Joel S. Sawyer and George L. Ingersoll. It succeeded W. Skinner & Co. The firm was located in the Pentagon Building. The building was erected in 1849 by Professor Day with money borrowed from his college. It was a three story, five sided structure located in Hudson.

By 1854 the firm had a branch office in Toledo.
Sawyer, Ingersoll & Co. also was a bookseller and dealer in stationery, printing supplies, writing and wrapping paper.

This company does not appear to have been active past 1855. Some books published by Sawyer, Ingersoll in 1853 and 1854 were subsequently published by the Hudson Book Company in 1855. The latter firm went bankrupt in 1856. The books published by the latter house are identical to the earlier Sawyer, Ingersoll books with the exception of the imprint and date.

No other details regarding this company are known.

This firm published the Ohio Observer as well as a number of titles in various fields.

Two series for children/juveniles are known.
