Ward, Lock, Bowden & Co., New York

Ward, Lock & Co. was an English publishing firm established in 1854 by Ebenezer Ward and George Lock. In 1865 with the entry of Charles T. Tyler the firm became Ward, Lock and Tyler. When Tyler left in 1873 the company reverted back to its earlier name.

In 1882 the company opened a New York office. James Bowden became a managing partner in 1891 and thus Ward, Lock & Bowden was formed. Lock died in 1891 and the company became Ward, Lock, Bowden & Co. and then in 1893 it became a Ltd company known as Ward, Lock, and Bowden Ltd.

In 1897 Bowden retired and the name became Ward, Lock & Co. Limited.
