The first five books in the Historical Tales Series were originally published by Thomas Whittaker in 1881. Books six and seven were added to the set in 1885 and 1886. Around 1888 the series was renamed the "Guernsey Books". By 1890 the series included nine books and was the "Historical Stories".
All the titles except for #2 were Thomas Whittaker first editions. Books # 2-4 were published prior to the introduction of the series.
The above series names are based on the catalogue listings. The names probably were used interchangeably however since a format with the "Historical Stories" lettered on the cover has been seen with an 1886 dated title page.
