This is the first of the Sophie May juvenile series that were
published by Lee and Shepard. There were three formats between 1863 and
1900. Post 1900 books are beyond the scope of this site.
Format 1.
Blindstamped. Green and maroon seen. Good gilt lettering on the spine.
Several full page illustrations. 6" x 4". (1863-1877)
Format 2
Cloth. Red. Four section front cover with series name in the upper left
and gilt girl on bottom right. Gilt spine lettering. 6.25" x
4.75". (1882-1895)
Format 3. 1896-1900's
Cloth. Various colors. picture of two children on the cover with silver
gilt lettering. Gilt lettering on the spine. 6.5" x 5".
