J. B. Lippincott Co. introduced this series beginning in 1889 with volumes #1-3. Thereafter books were added. The Lippincott copies are first editions.

These titles were also part of Lippincott’s Popular Library (1896-1912). This series is a multivolume, multiauthored set of more than 100 titles.

Books #1-3, #1-4 and #1-5 were originally sold as a multi-volume boxed set.
In 1897 #6 and #7 were also sold within a boxed set.

It is not known whether the first edition of Volume #6 is in Format 1 or Format 2. The first edition of Volume 8 has not been seen.
