Brown, Taggard and Chase only published the first title. Interestingly a title page for book #1 dated 1861 with the BTC imprint has been seen. Since BTC was no longer in business as of that year, the publishers must have found some old title pages with BTC and just added the 1861 date.

Brown and Taggard published volumes #1-6. Two formats have been seen with this publisher’s imprint. See below. The diamond cover was seen in 1860, 1861 and 1862 whereas the other blindstamped cover was only seen in 1861. I suspect that the latter cover is a variant. The diamond cover was utilized by BT and later publishers.

The first six titles were also published in 1862 by Fred’k A. Brown & Co and in 1863 by Taggard and Thompson. Titles #7-12 were published by Taggard and Thompson as they were released. Of interest the titles were advertised as early as in 1862 Brown and Taggard books.

All twelve volumes were reprinted by Thompson, Bigelow & Brown and Thompson, Brown & Co.

Taggard and Thompson editions were published in 1863, 1864, 1865, 1866 and 1867. Some TT editions have no date.

This series was divided into the Martin Series and the Nelly Series by Taggard and Thompson. It appears that this was just a convenience by the publisher so the books could be sold in smaller sets.

Three covers have been seen with these volumes.

First edition of volume #1. (Brown, Taggard & Chase)
Cloth. Brown. Blindstamped. Gilt spine lettering and decoration. (This is the same for all subsequent editions.)

Format 2.
Pebbled Cloth. Various colors. Blindstamped. 6.75" x 4.5"
I have only see this pattern with one 1861 BT book.
