This series was first published by Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Co. in 1860. All the titles were copyrighted by A. R. Baker in 1860.
The formats of the first three publishers are the same except for cloth type and embossed peripheral cover patterns. The Crosby and Nichols and the Crosby and Ainsworth books also had Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Co. written in gilt at the base of the spine.

Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Co.
Two covers have been noted. The presumed later edition is the same as
the Crosby and Nichols cover with the embossed corner decorations. The
earlier book has a plain cover.
