In 1886 D. Lothrop & Co. ads noted books that were for the "Young Folks' Bookshelf". The titles however are different from the ones that are actually listed as a set in 1887 catalogues. It appears that Lothrop used the term "bookshelf" in a non-series way.

The six books above have only been seen in D. Lothrop & Co. formats. Thus the covers shown below may or may not have been the same covers used in this series. Volumes seen all are blindstamped with gilt titles at the top of the cover.
