William V. Spencer, Boston

William V. Spencer established his company in Boston in 1852. His main output consisted of American and English plays. Between 1855 and 1862 Spencer published 216 titles in its "Spencer's Boston Theatre".

Spencer operated a bookstore as well as a publishing firm. He died in 1870.
Lee & Shepard bought the publications, stereotype plates, stock, etc. of William V. Spencer in 1871.

This outfit published one series for juveniles.
