Most of these books were originally published by Robert Carter & Sons. Hurst & Co. bought the plates from Carter in 1890.
Hurst & Co. published this series from 1891 to 1896. In 1897 these titles were part of a publishers series: Epworth Library. In 1899 the Epworth Library was called the Pearl Library without any change in the cover format.
