Harper & Brothers published the first eight books in this series in 1847/1848.
These volumes are Harper & Brothers first editions. Although book #9 was published by Harper & Brothers in about 1849, it was not until about 1859 that it was added to the series.

It appears that the only the first book appeared in illuminated wrap covers.

Thereafter the books were published in cloth with or without gilt edges.

Cloth. Various colors. Blindstamped with cover embossing. Gilt lettering and decoration on the spine and the cover. 16 mo.
Copies were printed into the 1880’s.
